Information system

An information system (IS) is a system, whether automated or manual, that comprises people, machines and/or methods organized to collect, process, transmit and disseminate data that represent user information.

In other words, information system is any combination of information technology, people's activities using this technology for operation support, management and decision making. In very broad terms, information system is often used to refer to the interaction between people, algorithmic processes, information and technology. In this context, the term refers not only to information and communication technology (ICT) used by the organization but also the way in which people interact with technology to support business processes.
